Chick-fil-A has made a lot of powerful enemies recently, potentially even more than when they were outed as homophobes. A TikToker who goes by the name Miri the Siren and who happens to be a Chick-fil-A employee had started making a name for herself on the platform by reviewing her employee meals, only for the videos to come to an abrupt halt after she was spoken to by corporate.
@mirithesiren Im back :) did you guys miss me? @Chick-fil-A #fyp #chickfila #chickfilasauce #chickfilahacks #chickfilaemployee #freefood ♬ original sound - mirithesiren
@mirithesiren Chick-fil-A Corporate has asked me to stop making content. I’m sorry you guys :/ Thank you for all the support and love but an era has ended. “The postings on this site are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of TC&Js Enterprises, Chick-fil-A Whittwood, nor Chick-fil-A, Inc.” #fyp #chickfila #chickfilaemployee #chickfilasauce #chickfilahacks #curlyhair #blackgirl ♬ original sound - mirithesiren
Despite netting millions of likes and 50,000 followers for posting what are essentially free ads for Chick-fil-A, corporate contacted her to let her know that her videos were in violation of a rule in the company’s employee handbook, and they were unwilling to make an exception for her — or better yet, collaborate with her.
Chick-fil-A PR even told her that they loved her videos and they love how much she loves the Chick-fil-A brand, but there was no room to budge on this issue. As for how Miri is feeling, she explained that she felt sad that they were unwilling to collaborate or let her continue making the videos, but she also feels “at peace” because she knows this “isn’t the end of [her] story.” She’s also grateful that they’re allowing her to keep her videos up, and ended the video by letting other brands know that she was open to collaborations.
@mirithesiren Went to @SHAKE SHACK and tried their CHICKEN SHACK - and you can too! Every Sunday in April you can get a free Chicken Shack with $10 minimum purchase using code CHICKENSUNDAY. #shakeshack #shakeshackpartner #chickenshack #fyp ♬ original sound - mirithesiren
A brand with a much better understanding of how social media works did indeed reach out to make that collab a reality: Shake Shack. In a recent video, which is tagged as a paid partnership, Miri enjoys a delicious-looking Shake Shack meal including what she says “might be the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had in my life.”
@mirithesiren Too good to stay away! Back at Shake Shack to tell you more about their menu. Comment for the chance for @shakeshack to drop you a code for some free Shack #shakeshack #shakeshackpartner #chickenshack #shakeshackmenu #fyp ♬ original sound - mirithesiren
Chick-fil-A really played themselves here. Now Miri’s comments are full of people hyping up Shake Shack and expressing their desire to visit, including James Charles of all people. Meanwhile, Chick-fil-A has further dented its reputation amongst consumers and industry watchers by being sticklers for corporate standards instead of going with the flow.
At least Shake Shack got the memo!
